City Guardians Activities

The City Guardians undertake a varied range of activities that generally fall into three areas: community work, crime and anti-social behaviour, and environment. Specific examples of things that City Guardians deal with include:

  • Environmental patrol of the main shopping roads
  • Theft from motor vehicle hotspots and abandoned vehicles audits
  • Audit of drug use and prostitute activity from the previous night
  • Removal of prostitute cards on a daily basis
  • Check rough sleepers location
  • Reassurance patrols of libraries and housing offices
  • Attending residents meetings and coffee mornings, acting as support mechanisms for vulnerable residents
  • Provide a presence outside schools and colleges to deter anti-social behaviour and crime against the person
  • Patrol stairwells on the estates
  • Providing a presence along the main shopping streets, deterring begging and moving on young people that have congregated
  • Helping to reduce the fear of crime
  • Running sports sessions for young people as a diversionary activity
