Westminster's parking charter

We want to make sure that our approach to enforcement is firm but fair.  To do this we have launced a Parking Charter (detailed below) outlining how we intend to deliver the best possible service to our customers.

Firm
  • Take consistent enforcement action and encourage considerate parking
  • Pursue parking ticket evaders to recover debt owed to the Council
  • Work with the police to protect our parking attendants against abuse and violence, as well as prevent crime and anti-social behaviour
Fair
  • Simplify the rules and improve how we communicate this – see our Enforcement Protocol including Frequently Asked Questions
  • Take photographs for all parking contraventions by April 2006 to make sure tickets are issued correctly
  • Monitor and replace any incorrect signs or lines on roads and regularly survey our streets to avoid confusing drivers
Excellent
  • Reply quickly to parking ticket challenges whilst fully investigating motorists' comments
  • Get tickets right first time.  New hand-held technology will reduce incorrectly issued parking tickets
  • Introduce cashless parking systems and improve on-line services to make interaction with the service easier
