July 2008: Rhythm & rhyme

There was a young man who loved books,
By the greats, by celebs and by cooks.
He was not made of money
(through his hands it was runny),
but the library gave free 3-week looks.

July 2008: Rhythm The less said about this webmaster's grasp of the poetic the better...

But if you enjoy a good verse, from Milton to Angelou and beyond, Westminster Libraries can provide. There are single volumes, anthologies, and indexes. There are also resources for poets, such as rhyming dictionaries and CDs to borrow, plus poetry links on the Gateway to websites.

Of course, 'rhythm and rhyme' is more than poetry - Westminster is home to a nationally renowned music library at Victoria, with musical scores for loan and much more besides. All the lending libraries have a wide selection of recorded music to take home and enjoy, and the music section of the Gateway to websites has resources from finding out about composers to getting into the music industry.

Enjoyment of reading and books is often sparked by rhymes for the very young - all our community libraries provide activities for the under fives which include sharing action songs and reading books together. 'Rhythm & rhyme' is the July theme for the National Year of Reading.
