BOOKGLuTTONS

bookgluttons

Join a literary feast with the BOOKGLuTTONS! We follow a simple but delicious recipe for meetings and are always happy for new members to come along, join the debate and help themselves to some biscuits.

We meet:

  • on Mondays once a month from 6.00 to about 7.00pm (around the 20th of each month)
  • on Tuesdays once a month from 10.30 to about 11.30am (around the 10th of each month)
  • at Victoria Library

Books are chosen from an exciting and varied menu including; Classics, Contemporary Fiction, Non-Fiction, Crime and Biographies.

The group recently came second in the Penguin Orange Broadband Reading Group of the Year (2007) prize, thanks to its diversity of both members and books chosen. We are also reaching out online to customers unable to make the meetings through the social networking site Facebook (www.facebook.com). Join the BOOKGLuTTONS ‘group’ to place reviews and receive reminders of upcoming events. You can also make friends with Victoria Library using the email address bookgluttons@yahoo.co.uk to news of other goings on in the library.

A taster from our recent servings:
Fugitive Pieces by Anne Michaels "Any book that can make geology sound interesting must be doing something right." "The author’s background as a poet is obvious. She creates a rich tapestry of prose that can be very intense"
Sleeping with the Fishes by Toby Moore "A fun book with many laugh out loud moments." "Not my cup of tea, but it did raise some unsettling questions about today’s society."
Reading Lolita in Tehran by Azar Nafisi "I have been left with the overwhelming desire to read so many of the books discussed." "I have never liked Jane Austen, but this has made me reconsider and that has to be a fantastic compliment to Nafisi."
