Developing and Refurbishing the Library - we say farewell to the old library

From November
As you may already know Church Street library has been and will be undergoing major refurbishment work as part of an investment programme worth in excess of a million pounds. As part of this work the library has moved to a temporary location at 97 to 99 Church Street.

How will regular events and facilities be affected?

  • Opening times will remain the same.
  • All the following: the monthly reading group, homework club, knitting group, chatterbooks reading group and under 5s sessions will all be delivered from the temporary library
  • Learning centre services will not be available in the temporary location, learning centres close by include those at Marylebone and St John's Wood Libraries.
  • The temporary location will have no online facilities (e.g. access to the Internet) until mid-December.
  • The Home Library Service will be moving location to Marylebone library but this should not affect the service they provide.
  • Westminster's Bengali Outreach worker will move to Queen's Park Library
  • ESOL with IT and ESOL basic literacy will take place at the Marylebone Bengali Society until July 2009
  • Bengali Women's Reading & Writing Group will take place every Friday 10am-12pm in the temporary library once it has opened.

To find out more about what's been happening, the plans and news about the upcoming closure please visit the Church Street Library development page.

Art at Church Street

Church Street is currently hosting a small art exhibition. You can see works by Ibn El Nil Soliman, a writer, poet, painter and photographer from Egypt. Mr Soliman is a frequent visitor to the library and would be delighted to discuss his work with you. His colourful paintings depict words and symbols of peace, love and joy in various languages; a cheerful message of multicultural harmony, complementing the Church Street atmosphere to a tee. Please contact the library before visiting as this exhibition may have ended due to the temporary library location.
