About the Encyclopaedia Britannica

Britannica Online The actual encyclopaedia itself is made of a great many volumes and would be impossible to take home or for that matter to keep entirely up-to-date. It is therefore extremely useful to have access to this resource with its 123,000 articles online via Westminster libraries' subscription. Furthermore, there is the added bonus of text that is fully searchable and links to other articles and definitions of words are available at the click of a button.

Britannica Online comes in three guises: the junior version; especially simplified for primary school children, the student version; for those studying in secondary school or sixth form, and the full version. Other additional features include The Year in Review and a World Atlas. It can be searched utilising both the quick search and advanced search options, as well as the browsing functions which allow you to view it alphabetically as you would the traditional version.

Britannica Online also has more information about its contents including a 'guided tour' and provides help in using its search facilities. This resource is accessible from anywhere with an Internet connection. From outside Westminster libraries simply type in the barcode number on your Westminster library card in the box provided.
