23.1 Manuscript texts | 23.2 Manuscript maps earlier than 1860
Many individual documents relating to Westminster have been acquired for the archive collection. These are two of the more interesting items:
Buckingham Palace: Description of the design for a new palace, 1726 Acc 496
Westminster Bridge: Scheme for the foundations, c1739 Acc 1216
The archive collection includes a small number of manuscript texts and notes for published and unpublished works. Collections of notes for historical works and the texts of autobiographical works are included with personal and estate records in Section 22. The following is an example of a text for a historical work:
Henry Thomas Buckle, historian (1821-1862): Manuscript of The History of Civilisation in England, published in 1857 and 1861 M Acc 603
These are maps which were not acquired as part of a larger archive. Parish maps which are kept with the parish records are included in Section 10.1 and estate maps kept with the estate records are included in Section 22. The local studies collection includes many copies of manuscript maps, the originals of which are held elsewhere (see Section 7).
