| Image Gallery | Important NewsChurch Street Library closed for more improvement work on Monday 3 November and has reopened in a temporary location close by at 97-99 Church Street. Opening times remain the same but services will be affected. Please read the October Bulletin to find out more or contact the library to see how regular events may be affected. IntroductionIn October 2007 the Big Lottery awarded Westminster Libraries £1,066,097 for the redevelopment of Church Street Library. This funding will be used to open up the basement levels at Church Street Library for additional library, learning and community use. This investment will allow the introduction of exciting and much needed services for the local Church Street Community. By opening up the two lower basement floors of the library for public access and enclosing the area to the rear of the building the redeveloped library will triple in size. The new library will boast a larger children’s area, study facilities, an IT area, a quiet reading zone, a learning centre and a community space for use by local organisations. Provision will also be made for bicycle parking and toilets (which include baby changing and disabled facilities). Following extensive consultation, internal designs have been finalised (see below) and planning permission has been granted. Work is due to start on site in late November 2008. It is estimated that the building works will take 9 months to complete. During this time a temporary library facility will be available at 97-99 Church Street (the former butchers shop). Work to convert this shop into a temporary library will start in September 2008. | |
