Arts in Westminster

The City of Westminster is both a local community with a varied and active community arts programme, and an international centre housing flagship arts organisations. This wide range and high standard of activities attracts visitors from all over the world. In addition, the arts in Westminster are a major industry providing work for a multitude of people.

Westminster encourages and supports the provision of high quality activities in all art forms, from local to international level.  The city contains many residential communities, with a diversity of cultures, lifestyles, character and settings. These communities generate their own arts activities, which are accessible to local people, as participants and audience members.

A list of key partners providing arts activities on behalf of Westminster City Council can be found here.

Support to the creative sector in Westminster is provided by the Council's Arts Service which:

  • acts as a broker between arts organisations or creative industries and other council departments or different agencies
  • advocates on behalf of the arts within the council and more widely facilitates networking within the sector
  • provides Pink Seer Web Logo arts directory (www.theseer.info)
  • finances Westminster Arts to re-distribute funding for community arts projects
  • commissions arts organisations to provide creative and cultural activities for local people
  • acts as an information point on the arts and directing enquiries from members of the public to the appropriate places
