What is a Minor Repairs Grant for?

The City of Westminster will consider applications for the following types of works:

  • Essential repairs - these are repairs that if left undone would adversely affect the health and the safety of the occupants, or, would result in further rapid deterioration of key elements of the building.
  • Maintenance of adaptations - Works to repair, maintain or service existing fixtures, fittings or elements of the building specifically installed or designed for the benefit of a disabled person.

No more than £6,000 is payable in respect of the same dwelling within any five year period and the dwelling must be in a reasonably safe condition and be weatherproof on completion of the works.

Who is eligible for this grant?

To qualify for this grant you must:

  • Be an owner-occupier, and
  • Be age 60 or over, and
  • Be in receipt of one or more of the means-tested benefits or allowances listed below:
    • Income support
    • Working tax credit (annual household income less than £15 460)
    • Child tax credit (annual household income less than £15 460)
    • Housing benefit
    • Council tax benefit (not including single occupancy reduction)
    • Disability living allowance
    • Attendance allowance
    • Industrial injuries disablement benefit (where it includes constant attendance allowance) 
    • War disablement pension
    • Guaranteed pension credit
    • Income based job seeker's allowance

Private tenants may apply for assistance for the purposes of maintaining any adaptations.
