The City Council seeks to ensure that people who need support and financial assistance to live in a safe, warm and energy efficient home receive this help. 

We give Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs) to assist disabled and frail, elderly people with adaptations to help them access all the facilities in their home.  Eligibility for this grant is determined by Government rules. 

The City Council funds and sets eligibility rules for other types of assistance. The main types are listed below.

Assistance available

Disabled facilities grant - to help adapt homes for disabled people.

Minor repairs grant - to help with smaller repair, energy efficiency work and essential repairs.

Safe and secure scheme - Helping older people and burglary victims with home security

Empty dwelling grant - for the improvement and/or repair of empty properties.

Energy grant assistance - to help to install or improve central heating, insulation, draught proofing etc, available to owners, landlords and tenants.

Emergency heating repairs - help in carrying out repairs in the Winter months to heating and hot water systems.

Sanctuary scheme for people at threat of domestic violence.
