You can bid for properties with the number of bedrooms your household qualifies for. Sometimes you can bid for a smaller property, but you are not allowed to bid for a property larger than you need.
Many housing associations have their own bedroom allocation policies. These are often different from the council's bedroom allocation policy. Depending on the number, sex and age of the people in your household, you may not qualify for certain housing association properties. Learn more
You can bid for as many properties as you like, but in any one week, you can only be shortlisted for your top three.
We have given every applicant and property a mobility category. Advertisements for properties will show the mobility category.
Category 1: Applicants who are wheelchair bound
Category 2: Applicants who need a home which is wheelchair accessible but may not need to use it inside the home
Category 3: Applicants with severe mobility problems who require a ground floor or lifted property with level access and no internal stairs
Category 4: All other applicants
Category 1: Property is fully adapted for a wheelchair user
Category 2: Property is suitable for a person who needs a wheelchair outside the home but can manage in the home without a wheelchair
Category 3: Property with no stairs
Category 4: All other properties
| Your mobility category | Mob cat of properties you can bid for |
| 1 | 1, 2, 3, 4* |
| 2 | 1, 2, 3, 4* |
| 3 | 3, 4* |
| 4 | 3, 4 |
When bidding for a mobility category 1, 2 or 3 property, you will not be shortlisted if someone with a higher mobility category also bids.
*Properties classified as mobility category 4 are not likely to be suitable for those registered with mobility category 1, 2 or 3. See individual adverts for more information.
If you think you may have the wrong mobility category, please complete a medical assessment form and return this to HOS. Please do not get a doctor's letter - we will contact your GP directly if we need more information.
Once we have assessed your mobility, we will write to you to confirm whether we have changed your mobility category. This process usually takes around 10 working days, though it can be longer if we have to contact your GP.
If you have any questions about this, please contact us at HOS or online.
