Substance Misuse Services for Young People

The Westminster Drug and Alcohol Action Team is a high-level strategic partnership composed of members from the PCT, London Probation Area, Metropolitan Police Service and the Council (Housing, Social Services, Community Safety Team, and Rough Sleepers Strategy).  The DAAT came into existence in 1998 as part of the governments Ten-Year Strategy ‘Tackling Drugs to Build a Better Britain’.  Supported by a Pooled Budget from its partners the DAAT is responsible for overseeing the implementation of a strategic plan to:

  • Protect local communities from the harm that drugs can cause
  • Educate and provide early intervention with young people who may become involved in substance misuse
  • Develop strategies for understanding and tackling availability of drugs within the borough
  • Provide comprehensive treatment options to substance misusers and increase the numbers accessing treatment.
