The Leaving Care Service helps and advises young people aged 15 to 18-years-old who are looked after by Westminster, and 18 to 21-year-olds who have left our care. If you are aged under 21 and have been looked after by Westminster you are entitled to help from the Leaving Care Service. The team work under statutory guidance set out by the Children and leaving care Act 2000.
The team is made up of 10 social workers, 3 Connexions workers, 2 Housing Support Workers, a Senior Project Officer, a Work placement Co-ordinator and an Education Worker.
WALC also offers a 10 week programme, three times a year, which covers residential issues, budgeting, researching and independence skills training. (Only open to WALC young people.)
We aim to treat all young people fairly and give them the best service we can. You will be given your own worker from the team. They will be able to advise, support and assist you. They will carry on supporting you until you both agree you can manage alone. If you want to come back for advice and help you can at any time up until you are 21
