Payment for Care Services

Payment for Care Services

What is it?

If you are receiving help from Westminster Adults Services Department, you will have to contribute towards the cost of your home care if you can afford it. We will ask you to pay towards the cost of those services which help you remain in your own home, such as home care, help with personal care, and Direct Payments

Am I likely to have to pay for my care?

To provide you with a guide on what we will be looking for during a financial assessment, we have created a Charging Check. This should help you understand if you are likely to need to contribute towards your care.

How will I be assessed?
We will work out the amount you should contribute by looking at your individual income, spending, savings and assets. We also take into account the hours of service you are to receive each week. The amount you will be charged is based on a nationally agreed system to make it fair across the country.

Are there any exemptions or special circumstances?
You will not be charged for home care services if you receive these through the Mental Health Service.

You may be exempt from some charges if they are provided solely to relieve you in your caring role. You should discuss this with your social worker/care manager and the finance officer.

If you cannot afford to pay, you can apply to have your charges reduced or set aside. This will be agreed only in exceptional circumstances.
