Services for people with mental health problems

We arrange services for people with severe or long-term mental health problems to help them live as independently as possible. Depending on your level of need, we can arrange the following services:

  • Day services offering drop-in, activity groups and work projects.
  • Accommodation with different levels of support.
  • Help with getting a place in hospital during mental health crises.
  • Community resources as an alternative to hospital.
  • Help for people in hospital to return to the community.
  • Help with travel.
  • Services for homeless people with mental health problems through our Joint Homelessness Team (based at the Soho Centre for Health and Care).
  • An Appropriate Adult service for people with mental health problems who are held at a police station in the City of Westminster.

Payments for Mental Health Services provided by Westminster City Council 

We want to contact people with mental health problems who were living in a residential or nursing home organised through Westminster City Council or received other mental health services from the Council for which they were charged. Were you receiving mental health services or do you know a person who made any payments for their mental health after care services? Changes in policy mean that people who paid towards their mental health after care services may now be entitled to receive reimbursement.

Out-of-hours services

There are joint health and social out-of-hours services in the Paddington area (W2, W9, W10, W11) and in South Westminster (W1, WC2, SW1). These services are for people with mental health problems who are in crisis and cannot wait until the next working day.

Paddington (North Westminster) out-of-hours service

The Paddington out of hours service operates from 5pm to 11pm Monday to Friday, 2pm to 8pm Saturday and 4pm to 8pm Sunday.

South Westminster out-of-hours service
