The Social Model of Disability
The barriers encountered by disabled people may be organisational, personal or physical aspects of society. The ‘Social Model’ sees disabled people as having the same wants, needs and aspirations as non-disabled people, and seeking fair treatment.
Westminster City Council has adopted the Social Model of Disability. This means that it will seek to act inclusively, and will examine opportunities for changes that can reasonably be made in the way it is organised to achieve this.
