Occupational Therapy

What is it?
Occupational Therapy aims to help people who live at home to be as independent as possible through:
  • Provision of equipment to help with daily living and personal care
  • Advice about living independently
  • Recommendations for large changes (adaptations) to your home
  • Recommendations for re-housing when adaptations are not possible
  • Advice and support to carers

How do I get it?
If you are an older or disabled person you need to discuss your needs with your care manager or the local social care office. They can then if appropriate refer you to the occupational therapy service provided by Dependability.

Once a referral is received, Dependability will contact you to arrange to visit you within 10 working days and carry out an assessment. You will be able to discuss with the occupational therapist the needs that you have and what may help you to live independently in your home.

Occupational therapists also work in the Children with Disabilities Team, Westminster Rehabilitation Service, Learning Disabilities and the Mental Health Services.
