Household waste

Special Collections

We provide special waste collection services for bulky household waste and services for Westminster residents that are unable to make use of our standard services, through disability, illness or old age.

Special Collections - Bulky Household waste (fridges, beds, sofas etc)
Before you dispose of a bulky household item please consider re-using it by donating it to charity, local second-hand stores or other family members. You can find London based furniture recycling organisations on the recycling pages under Furniture Recycling.

Smaller household items (e.g. lamps, lampshades, keyboards, computer monitors, TVs) can be disposed of using your normal residential line collection or by using one of Westminster's Big Black Bins.

If you have computer equipment to dispose of or if you would like to obtain a low-cost computer contact the REALISE IT network on 020 7926 6217 or visit www.realise-it.org

If you have clothing/textiles which you would like to dispose of please use one of the local Scope textile bins or donate to local charity shops. Many local charity shops will also accept books and CDs. See the Recycling Pages for more information.

If you cannot recycle or reuse items, we provide a free service for the collection of 3 items of bulky household waste from your home. This special collection service is large, bulky household items only, such as:

  • Fridges
  • Washing Machines
  • Cookers
  • Beds - Mattresses, Bedframes
  • Sofas
  • Tables
  • Wardrobes

To arrange a bulky household waste collection for the items listed above please contact the Environment Action Line on 020 7641 2000.

Don't Dump
The illegal disposal of waste can result in a maximum fine of £2,500.

Fridges
Did you know that Westminster also recycles household white goods? Fridges/cookers & washing machines collected through our bulky household waste service are taken to a recycling plant operated by European Metals Recycling in London where they are reprocessed.
