Duty of care

If you produce rubbish you have a legal duty of care to make sure it’s properly stored and only passed on to somebody who is suitably licensed to take it away and dispose of it. We will supply you with a Waste Transfer Note which confirms you are meeting your legal requirements.

The Waste Transfer Note includes: 

  • A written description of the type of rubbish being collected and how it is contained (eg in bags or bins) 
  • Confirmation of the council’s license to legally collect waste and details of where it is taken to.

You must keep a copy of your Waste Transfer Note for two years.
