Westminster Noise Strategy

Introduction
Excess noise is a pollutant and a significant environmental problem which affects the quality of life. In response to this, last year the Leader of the Council made a commitment to develop a Noise Strategy for Westminster. The Westminster Noise Strategy is one of twenty One City  projects to enhance the quality of life in Westminster and represents an important step towards an integrated approach to tackling noise problems and improving the noise environment.
Your ideas and suggestions

An expert panel, chaired by Professor Stephen Stansfeld, has been established to provide advice on the development of the strategy. We would also like your views on the noise issues and problems that this strategy should focus on and how, as a council, we could look to manage and tackle problem noise.

Consultation is currently taking place on the ‘Noise Issues and Options Report’ until Monday 17th November 2008 and comments from stakeholders and members of the community are welcome. Any suggestions received during this consultation shall be considered as part of the development of the draft Westminster Noise Strategy, which will be consulted upon during the early part of next year.

The Noise Strategy shall require a Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) as it is likely to have significant environmental effects. The first stage of the SEA is the scoping report, which establishes the background information and a set of environmental objectives, which will provide the benchmark against which to assess and inform the next stages of the assessment process and the developing Noise Strategy.
