RTPI awards presentation February 2004

Supplementary Planning Guidance Wins RTPI Award

On the 5th Feb 2004 Westminster City Council were presented with an award by the Royal Town Planning Institute's President, Mike Haslem [second from right] in recognition of their contribution to planning for sustainability.

To receive the award was Gillian Dawson, City Planning Group [centre], Mike LeRoy, Environment & Leisure [second from left] & Adam McTavish, Entec [Far left]

Extract from Judges report
"The judges were impressed by the way Westminster City Council had taken the issue forward to a more detailed and practical level. The Council had supplemented the policies in their Unitary Development Plan (UDP) by providing additional information on how to achieve sustainable buildings. This took the form of a Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) note, which was concerned with such important planning issues as transport, noise, energy, waste, water and drainage. The note is clear, well structured and particularly easy to use".

Our supplementary planning guidance (SPG) note on sustainable buildings, developed in conjunction with Entec Consulting, has now been finalised. The SPG supports policies in the revised UDP Environment Chapter and sets out how the requirements of these policies can be met along with examples of ‘best practice’ within the Westminster context. The SPG covers the key elements of sustainable design (e.g. design, energy, water, transport, air, waste, materials, noise, etc.). Printed copies are now available.
