Soho

Soho at nightSoho is the most exciting of London’s villages. Home to over 4,000 residents, it is the center of the British film and theatre business and many historic restaurants and pubs.

Bordered by Oxford Street, Regent Street, Shaftesbury Avenue and Charing Cross Road, Soho has a thriving night scene. . Newcomers to the area invariably see it as a clubbing and drinking venue, but there is much more to the area.

The challenge:
We want to help the area achieve its full potential and at the same time preserve Soho’s unique character.

Where are we now?
The Soho Action Plan was adopted on 18th June 2007 and is available to download here.

Every address in Soho should receive a postcard in January 2008 with details of how they can obtain their own copy of the Action Plan.

Through a press release in January 2008, Councillor Danny Chalkley, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Transport said: "Soho is a fantastic and energetic hub right in the heart of London and we want to ensure it stays this way.  These ambitious, long-term plans have been carefully thought through with local residents and businesses to give them all better amenities, support and services and provide the area with a more sustainable future."

Since June, we have been working on the actions in the plan.  You can find out further information or contact the Soho Action Plan Team by email.

Looking ahead:
The Soho Action Plan aims to deliver 65 initiatives, including the regeneration of Berwick Street, Ham Yard and Great Windmill Street.  The projects aim to address resident concerns, improve community facilities and support small independent businesses and the creative industries.  The Soho Action Plan Team works with a local Steering Group made up of local residents, businesses, charitable organisations and community groups, who meet to hear updates on progress and raise any issues in the local area.
