What is Crossrail?
Crossrail Line 1 is a proposed new rail scheme promoted by the Secretary of State for Transport through Cross London Rail Links (CLRL), a 50/50 joint venture company formed by Transport for London (TfL) and the Department for Transport (DfT). It aims to provide improved east-west rail access into and across London from the East and South East regions and to relieve congestion and overcrowding on the existing National Rail and Underground networks and support the development of a network of strategic interchanges, which will also facilitate the improvement of London’s international links, including Heathrow.
On 5th October 2007 the Prime Minister announced funding agreements for the project which were detailed in the Chancellor's Autumn Statement on 9th October 2007. The Crossrail website will keep residents and businesses informed of the implications of the project.
Crossrail obtained Royal Assent on 22nd July 2008.
Please see the links on the left hand side for further information about other aspects of Crossrail.
