Core Strategy

The Core Strategy Development Plan Document (DPD)
The Core Strategy is the main Development Plan Document prepared by the Council.  It sets out the key elements of the planning framework for Westminster, for the next 15-20 years. 

The Core Strategy will include; a spatial vision and strategic objectives for the area, a spatial strategy, and a monitoring and implementation framework for achieving the spatial vision.

It is being produced in a number of stages;

  • Issues and Options - were consulted on over the summer 2007
  • Preferred Options - are being consulted on from 24th July - 30th September 2008
  • Submission Draft - will be prepared following consultation on the Preferred Options
  • Adopted Document - subject to the outcome of an Independent Examination, the Core Strategy Document is planned to be adopted in 2010.


All of the Council's Development Plan Documents (DPDs) will be in conformity with the Core Strategy.


Provisional Timetable for development of the LDF Core Strategy

  • Issues and options stage for public comment May-July 2007
  • Publication of Preferred Options for consultation July-September 2008
  • Publication of Core Strategy for consultation and Submission to the Secretary of State March-May 2009
  • Public Examination September/October 2009
  • Adoption of Core Strategy Report March/April 2010
