The Core Strategy
Westminster’s 'Core Strategy' will be one of the principal documents of the Local Development Framework (LDF). It will set a clear vision for the pattern and location of development in Westminster, and build on the plans and programmes of our partners to deliver this vision over the next 10-15 years.
Issues and Options
The first stage in the production of the Core Strategy is the preparation of an 'Issues and Options' paper for public consultation. Westminster's Issues and Options paper was consulted on during the summer 2007.
Consultation Responses
The Issues and Options paper was made available for public consultation between mid May and July 2007. During this period Council officers attended Westminster City Partnership (WCP) thematic networks, Local Area Renewal Partnership, and Area Forum meetings, and held discussions with amenity societies, business organisations, and property owners. During these meetings officers sought views on specific issues, and explored a range of realistic options for changing policies.
Preferred Options
The second stage in production of the Core Strategy, the council is in the process of identifying the main planning issues that the Core Strategy will need to cover, and is drawing up alternative spatial policy options to tackle them.
What happens next?
It is important to us that the local community and our stakeholders are given opportunities to participate in the development of these spatial policy issues and options from the outset.
Consultation on the 'Preferred Options' is expected to take place during summer 2008. Following this, the Core Strategy policy document itself will be drafted.
