Applications

Development Control covers many types of proposals. These include the following.

• building a garage or making your home bigger
• constructing a building, such as a new office block
• altering buildings, for example adding new shop fronts or replacing windows
• changing landscaping, such as laying a new path or making a new children's play area
• changing the use of existing land or buildings
• displaying advertisements
• doing work to trees
• putting up temporary structures

Usually Development Control involves making an application. The main types are:

• Planning permission
• Listed building consent
• Conservation area consent
• Advertisement consent
• Works to trees

Westminster will consider any of these applications, in a way that is set out according to legislation. Each case will be approved or refused.  In most cases, approvals will be subject to a number of conditions and the reasons for any refusal will be given.

The aim is to strike a fair balance between letting people make changes to their property and preventing changes that could be harmful to the area as a whole.
