History to dateBroadley Street Gardens

The garden was constructed in 1974 on land that was formally housing. The original houses were knocked down with the resulting rubble and timbers simply being bulldozed into the cellars of the old houses. Over a period of time the wood has rotted leading to a number of subsidence issues over the last 30 years.

During 2007 it became evident following a collapse of one of the pathways that serious problems existed with the subsurface infill. A radar survey was carried out which confirmed the City Councils worst fears and funds were allocated by the Council to deal with the problems at this site.

The City Council's Parks, Sport and Leisure Division will be conducting an extensive public consultation on what should replace the current garden and information on this will be made available on line on this page and also on site where a notice board will be placed on the front of the current building until it is demolished when it will be transferred to the hoarding surrounding the site.
