Energy grants
There are several energy grants available, all with different eligibility criteria, depending on the applicants circumstances and housing tenure. Most grants are only open to owner occupiers and tenants renting from a private landlord. However, there is one grant for loft and cavity wall insulation, which is also open to council and housing association tenants. In most cases Westminster Council recommend applying for the Westminster Energy Grant, as it has the widest eligibility criteria and range of measures available.
- Westminster Energy Grant offers heating, insulation and ventilation measures if you are claming a benefit or have a low income and are a private tenant or home owner. (Housing association tenants living in a home owned by a private landlord and shared ownership tenants, might also be eligible). Please click Energy Grant for more information.
- Warm Front Grant is the Government grant for providing heating and insulation measures to vulnerable people. It can provide full gas fired central heating, storage heating, repairs to existing systems, draught-proofing, plus loft, hot water tank and cavity wall insulation. For more information call 0800 316 6011.
- Westminster Emergency Heating Assistance provides quick repairs or improvements to heating systems between October and April each year. Assistance is only available to over 60's who are owner occupiers or tenants with a full repairing obligation, as landlords are normally legally required to maintain heating systems. Typical repairs are, gas fires, boilers and storage heaters. To apply call Staying Put Services on 020 8206 5890.
- Utility Company Grants are available from the major utility companies towards loft and cavity wall insulation. For those on a benefit or tax credit, the grant is normally 100%. For those not claiming any assistance, discounts are still available and most should only have to pay around £100 for loft or £150 for cavity wall insulation. This equates to a discount of around 75% off the normal price. Ask your utility company if they have any exclusive deals. Alternatively Westminster Council currently recommend the Scottish and Southern scheme, as it is the only scheme available to all tenure.
