Our mission is to deliver an effective and responsive schools choice advice service so that parents and carers feel empowered, supported and well-informed.

What is Choice Advice Service?
Changing from primary to secondary school is a significant time for a child and their family. It is important for parents to feel that they are getting the support and advice they need during this time.

You will be pleased to know that there is help available...
The Choice Advice Service is free and offers independent, transparent, confidential and impartial advice for parents and carers; it is also just one of the many initiatives put in place to ensure that all parents are able to exert a fully-informed choice in a number of areas in their child’s decision for a secondary school placement.

The main aim of the Choice Advice Service is to target hard-to-reach groups, primarily from less advantaged areas so that they have the same chance of securing a school place as everyone else.

Groups might include parents /carers who themselves find it difficult to engage with current primary school; experience problems with reading and writing; are parents of children in care; have English as an Additional Language; new arrivals to this country; frequent movers; live in areas of deprivation. For such groups, understanding the Admissions process can be difficult and confusing. Your child should not be disadvantaged because you are having difficulty in accessing information or engaging with the admissions process for applying to schools.

Choice Advisor to assist you...

A Choice Advisor will aim to empower those parents, especially those who may struggle to understand the Admissions system. Your Choice Advisor cannot make a decision for you, nor can a school be recommended or guaranteed, however your Choice Advisor can assist to optimise your choices by using, interpreting, and passing on relevant information about an ever-changing range of schools to choose during years five and six.
