The Lord Mayor of Westminster - Councillor Louise Hyams - has represented the St James’s Ward of the city for ten years. Before moving to central London she lived in Woodford Green and was a member of Redbridge Council for twelve years.
Since her election to the council in 1998, the Lord Mayor has been involved in many areas of the council’s activity. She has served on both the Planning and Development Committee and the Licensing Committee and was, until she took office as Lord Mayor, Vice-Chairman of the Built Environment Overview and Scrutiny Committee.
She has taken a keen interest in Social Services provision and has chaired various committees and panels which make decisions about how we can improve the lives of the city’s most disadvantaged families.
The Lord Mayor is a Board member of The Heart of London Business Alliance and a Trustee of Connection at St Martin’s, one if the UK’s largest organisations for homeless people of all ages. She is also a Trustee of the Covent Garden Area Trust.
The charity that she has chosen to support during her time as Lord Mayor is ‘for dementia', which works to improve the quality of life of dementia patients and their families.
