City of Westminster Charitable Trust

The City of Westminster Charitable Trust (COWCT) was set up following the City Council’s 400th anniversary celebrations in 1986 when sponsorship for various projects to revitalise the City was received. Since then its main income is derived from the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Appeal, the proceeds donated as a result of the Christmas Card sale in Westminster City Hall Foyer, general donations and a small amount of investment income. The Lord Mayor is Chairman of the Trust.

Principally, grants are made to organisations either based in the City of Westminster or which provide a service for Westminster residents.

The annual meeting is usually held in April when applications are considered for grants from the Lord Mayor’s Christmas Appeal Funds. The Trustees also meet in October/November to approve the annual report and to consider any outstanding applications.

The Trustees are:

  • Lord Mayor – Chairman
  • Colin Wilson- Director of Legal and Administrative Services
  • Nick Bell – Director of Finance and Resources

All of the above are ex-officio Trustees with the remit to appoint three co-opted Trustees. The co-opted Trustee are:

  • Mrs Jenny Bianco
  • Councillor Cyril Nemeth
  • Councillor Michael Brahams

Their term of office runs concurrently with the City Council elections and will next be reviewed in May 2010.

If you would like to make an application for a grant, please download an application form, which must be completed and returned to the address below by Friday 28 March 2008.
