Westminster Scrutiny Commission

On 26 April 2006, the Council agreed a new structure for Policy and Scrutiny. This included the establishment of the Westminster Scrutiny Commission (WSC) with the following functions/responsibilities:

  • scrutinising the work of the Leader of the Council, including holding twice yearly public Question and Answer sessions
  • acting as the guardians of the Policy and Scrutiny process and budget, including having responsibility for the continuous improvement of the Policy and Scrutiny process
  • meeting quarterly to consider the forward work programme of scrutiny and consulting the Cabinet on emerging, particularly cross-cutting, issues which it would be useful to scrutinise
  • allocating tasks to Committees not specifically included in their terms of reference.
