Question: Will I receive an NHS number for my baby at the time of the registration?

Answer: Yes, you will receive an NHS number if you wait until the baby is at least a 10 days old before you register the birth . If you register the birth before then, it is possible that we will not yet have received the NHS number from the Child Health Authority.
