Christianity in Westminster

A Christian crossAlthough there are many different denominations within Christianity they all share the same main beliefs. They believe in and worship the one God who they can come to know in three ways (the Trinity):

  • the Father, who is beyond all things, created all things and constantly guides and sustains all his creation;
  • the Son, Jesus Christ, God who became human, whose teaching and life we follow and by whose death and resurrection we are freed from sin and given eternal life;
  • the Spirit, the enabler, the presence of God within us and the world, God's inspiration, power and strength.

The holy book for Christians is the Bible, made up of a selection of the Hebrew scriptures (the Old Testament), of Gospels telling of the life and teaching of Jesus and of letters from early Christian leaders containing teaching about Christian life and faith.

Christianity is expressed through worship and mission, private prayer, and service to others and lives led to the glory of God. These expressions have many different forms and styles.
