In Westminster over 30% of residents belong to Black or minority ethnic communities and over 100 first languages are spoken. There are a large number of different ethnic minority groups in the City, with some long-established communities in different parts of the City. Compared to London as a whole, Westminster has high numbers of Chinese and Bangladeshi residents, although within the City, African-Caribbean residents constitute the largest minority group. The central London location means that Westminster experiences high migration within some groups of residents. Over the next ten years the City is expected to become more ethnically diverse and the age structure of some groups will change significantly. A more systematic assessment of those community needs is therefore required to ensure quality services are effectively targeted.
