One of these project, which successfully achieved funding from the FSA, was the Food in Schools project which was delivered by the City Council's Food Safety Team in partnership with the following organisations:
The partnership was successful in achieving one of 15 Agency grants as a result of an application process involving 84 separate bids.
The aim of the project was to improve the provision and safety of foods provided in primary schools and play settings, through raising food safety and healthy eating awareness amongst teaching and non-teaching staff, in primary schools throughout the two boroughs. This year the project reached 51 teaching and non-teaching staff in the two boroughs’ primary schools.
The Agency also pointed out the sustainability of the project work, highlighting the ability of Local Authorities to engage with communities that are hard to reach on a national level, the increase in awareness achieved and the availability of literature and resources developed as part of the projects.
It is intended that the project will link strategically with the work of The North Paddington Fruit and Vegetable Project as well as with the Westminster PCT Health Promotion Strategy and existing neighbourhood renewal programmes such as the Local Area Regeneration Plan. The Agency is due to contact us as to whether our bid has been successful by the end of July 2006.
