Safer food, better business
The Food Standards Agency provides food safety management pack for restaurants, cafes, takeaways and small catering businesses.
All food business operators must have in place a food safety management system and the most widely used is 'safer food, better business' which is available to download for free via the Food Standards Agency website.
You will find information resources and an electronic diary you can use to evidence what you do to ensure food you serve is safe to eat. You will need to show this to the Environmental Health Officer when they visit to carry out an inspection.
Safer food, better business (SFBB) packs are based on examining your business using the 4C’s principles:
There are also additional resources in the packs to assist you with the management of your business and an area for you to keep a daily record of your checks. These elements are also important and can be used to demonstrate and evidence how you manage food safety on a daily basis.
Other versions
The FSA have produced the pack in other languages and for set cuisines (such as Indian, Chinese). There is also a pack specifically for childminders and residential care homes.
