Problems with licensees

What happens if the problems start after the licence has been granted?

Under the new Licensing Act you can call for a problem premises to have their licence reviewed at any time. The Licensing Authority is allowed to change the conditions, introduce new ones or even revoke the licence if the premises is causing a problem.

You are advised to collect evidence before calling for a review. Westminster City Council has set up the following help lines to record problems with venues so that problem premises can be targeted.

020 7641 6514 - Licensing Procedure Information – Call this line to report premises that are affecting your quality of life.

020 7641 3000 – Anti –Social Behaviour Hotline - Call this line to report incidents of anti social behaviour apparently connected to licensed premises. There will not be a verbal response to this line but it will allow us to identify and make a record of premises that are creating problems in your area.

020 7641 2000 – Environmental Action Hotline – Call this line if you have a problem with noise associated with the premises which needs to be dealt with rapidly by the Council.

It is important that you record incidents of noise and antisocial behaviour yourself but it is also helpful to report them to the hotlines even if action cannot be take at that time. This means that the Council can build up information which can then be used when dealing with the problem. Ask for a reference number for each call so that this can be referred to at any future hearing.
