Who needs a personal licence?

Any premises (except qualifying clubs) that sell or supply alcohol will need at least one personal licence holder, one of whom must be named on the premises licence as the Designated Premises Supervisor.

Who can apply for a personal licence?

A personal licence holder must be:

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Not have forfeited a personal licence within 5 years prior to making an application
  • Not have been convicted of any relevant or foreign offence
  • Possess an accredited licensing qualification (or equivalent)

What is considered an accredited licensing qualification?

Qualifications are accredited by the Secretary of State. At the moment there are two acceptable qualifications:

  • BIIAB Level 2 National Certificate for Personal Licence Holders, QCA Accreditation Number: 100/4866/2 and;
  • GOAL Level 2 Certificate for Personal Licence Holders, QCA Accreditation Number: 100/4865/0
