Licensing enforcement

Licensing Act 2003

The Licensing Act 2003 requires any premises within the City of Westminster providing licensable activities to have a premises licence. Licensable activities covered by the Act are:

  1. the sale by retail of alcohol,
  2. the supply of alcohol by or on behalf of a club to, or the order of, a member of the club,
  3. the provision of regulated entertainment, and
  4. the provision of late night refreshment.

The Premises Licensing Inspectors carry out regular inspections of premises with Premises Licences with a view to ensuring promotion of the four licensing objectives. The Premises Licensing Inspectors also take enforcement action against premises that provide licensable activities without a licence or outside what is permitted by a licence or authorisation.
